On August 27-29, 2015, trucking enthusiasts from all over will come together in Dallas, Texas to celebrate this unique and fascinating industry at The Great American Trucking Show (GATS).

If you’re attending (or just looking for effective ways to recruit truck drivers), you should be actively using social media. Not a social media guru? That’s okay. We have a few driver recruiting tips you can use leading up to and during GATS.

First, let’s talk about this annual trucking convention. With more than 500 exhibits and multiple events like Overdrive’s Pride and Polish Competition, Educational Sessions, and the CV Outlook, there’s a lot of opportunity to network with industry leaders and recruits. But before the show kicks off in August, don’t you want your name already out there? Wouldn’t it be nice for people to engage with your company in both an offline and online sense?

The reach of potential drivers offered by social media is extraordinary, and if you’re looking to hire qualified truck drivers, it’s important to stay on top of recruitment advertising trends. Check out these effective social media tactics to use for The Great American Trucking Show!

1. Give Them a Follow

Using your company social media networks, follow the official Great American Trucking Show on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. Start interacting with the content that matters to you by liking, sharing, retweeting, and commenting. This activity is seen among other followers in the industry and gets your brand in front of your audience. Following their posts also keeps you up-to-date with the show.

2. Use Hashtag #GATS and #TruckShow

Hashtags are such a prominent part of tech culture today that it’s rare to find anyone who doesn’t know what they are. It’s likely the most popular means of categorizing content on social media. It makes your own content discoverable, and allows you to connect with and engage other social media users based on a common theme or interest — like in this case, The Great American Trucking Show.

So as you create social media content about the show, be sure to include the event’s hashtags: #GATS and #TruckShow

Tag, You’re It

In addition to hashtagging, you should be tagging The Great American Trucking Show (and any other users mentioned) in your posts. If you’re not familiar with using the @ symbol for tagging purposes, here’s what you do… when typing your text to create a Facebook post or tweet, use the @ symbol and start typing who you want to tag. Once their username pops up, click it. Boom! You’re all set.

3. Post More Visuals

Did you know the most common learning style in the country is visual? No surprise, but this reminds us that the majority of people retain information as it comes to them visually. Therefore, you should be distributing your content this way.

Leading up to the event: If you have photos from the 2014 convention, post those as an exciting reminder that you’ll be there again this year. Throwback Thursday post? Perfect. If you don’t have pictures from previous shows, instead publish big, bold graphics with your logo and the GATS logo. Just something other than plain ole text is good.

During the event: You’ll be busy running around and talking with others at the truck show, but don’t forget to snap some photos during the midst of it all. Post them to your social media channels in real-time (don’t forget to tag and hashtag!)

Pictures and short video clips generate a much higher engagement rate than posts without visuals or interactive content.
