If you’re like most companies, you have a website. That’s great – but what about a mobile site? While this may not have been a big concern the past few years, it’s quickly becoming extremely important to have a functional mobile version of your website ready for potential drivers. Here are a few reasons why it is crucial your trucking company has a mobile site:
More than half of U.S. Consumers Own a Smartphone
It’s hard to believe that the first iPhone was released less than seven years ago. Since the summer of 2007, smartphones have become a ubiquitous fixture in American culture. Since it’s not 2007 anymore, you can no longer ignore the fact that more people have smartphones than feature phones (basically any phone that isn’t an iPhone, BlackBerry, or Android.) Not to mention, the main reason people buy a smartphone is to browse the Internet.
The next time you’re waiting somewhere – waiting to get seated at a table for dinner, waiting in the checkout line at the grocery store – take a look around at how many people are passing the time by using their smartphone. This might help you realize how important it is for your company to have a mobile site. We have more research to back this up…
Mobile Users Expect a Simplified Browsing Experience
While modern smartphones can render full websites, mobile users expect a site that loads quickly, is easily navigable (without pinch-zooming) and contains plenty of functions and sections that are pertinent to mobile users.
In the example below, you can see the difference between the PAM Transport traditional desktop website (top) and their mobile version (bottom.) While the traditional version offers more information and is eye-catching, the functionality on the mobile site is more simple when viewing from a mobile device. The mobile site is straight-forward and easily navigable by mobile users.
Notice how there’s no pinch-zooming or distractions? This is where you need to be.
Mobile Traffic Is (and will continue) Exploding
Using a mobile device as a means to search the Internet is not slowing down. In fact, it is only going to increase. Mobile traffic has been growing steadily over the past five years, but increased more than 50 percent in the last 12 months. Global tablet and smartphone traffic grew to 20 percent of all internet traffic in December 2013.
With stats like these, you cannot afford to ignore mobile users in 2014. It’s imperative that your content is not only readily available to mobile users, but is optimized for mobile consumption. Is your content mobile ready for drivers to easily navigate and apply on your recruitment website?
