How To Get Truck Drivers on Twitter to Follow You

While the majority of truck drivers are active on Facebook, we’re seeing Twitter become a more popular social network for the truck driving audience. If you’re recruiting drivers and curious about using Twitter as a method to find potential hires, take a look at these tips for growing your following—and ultimately your fleet!

Before we talk about growing your following on Twitter, let’s cover tip #1: Don’t Buy Them. Buying followers may seem like an easy way to look like a Twitter rockstar, but we don’t recommend it. Purchased followers are usually fake profiles, serving no purpose except for spam.

Followers you earn are the people who will click on your links, learn more about your trucking company, and potentially drive for you in the future. So let’s get started with how to attract driver recruits on Twitter!

Create and Optimize Your Profile

  • Determine your purpose for being on Twitter and your target audience. Your profile shows the world who you are, and first impressions count. Every element should showcase your best content and reflect your trucking company identity.
  • Customize your Twitter profile to (a) make it look nice n’ pretty, (b) inform potential followers who you are, and (c) provide a reason why you’re worth a follow. Overall, your profile should be complete with a profile picture, eye-catching header image, and company info.

Tweet Often

  • Your greatest leverage for growing followers is to tweet, and often. Tweet content you create and retweet content created by others. You can even tweet the same content more than once; just consider changing up the wording and/or image to mix it up.
  • Don’t just tweet about you. You want a nice blend of content about company happenings and content that’s of interest to your followers. Trucking how-to’s and advice, recipes on the road, etc.

Follow Profiles of Interest

  • Another effective way to grow your following other than tweeting and retweeting often is to follow similar profiles. Follow trucking and transportation-related accounts. Follow other accounts that may be of interest to your audience. As you identify your audience, you then can identify what to tweet to engage them.

Create Twitter Lists

  • An easy and organized way to find valuable content to offer your existing and future followers is to create Twitter lists. You can create your own lists or subscribe to lists created by others. Viewing a list timeline will show you a stream of tweets from only the accounts on that list, making it simple to discover fresh, relevant content.

Make Tweets Visual

  • Take the time to include visuals in your tweets. While there is a character limit for Twitter and an including an image takes up characters, it definitely pays off in engagement and clicks.
  • Need inspiration on where to get visuals? Include a photo you already have of company equipment. Find free images online like Pixabay. If you know your way around a computer, create your own design in Canva.

Make Your Profile Easy to Follow

  • Have you let people know you’re on Twitter? At the very least, place a Twitter follow button on your website homepage. Put a linked Twitter icon at the bottom of your email blasts. Even post about it on Facebook to drive your Facebook fans to Twitter.

Attend a Hashtag-Friendly Event

  • Are you going to a truck show this year, say for example The Great American Trucking Show? Use the trending hashtag #GATS throughout the event as you join the conversation and update followers. Your tweets will reach an attentive audience with greater frequency.

We hope these tips will help you crank up your follower count and engage with your audience. Comment on our blog below with more ideas on how to get truck drivers on Twitter to follow you or any questions you have!
